Airport - Airside Power Switching for Limited Visibility.

Before aircraft can be allowed to land in limited visibility conditions airports have to invoke Limited Visibility Procedures (LVP) which include measures to ensure that, in event of an electrical power supply failure, critical loads including runway lighting levels are maintained within strict tolerances.

Weirgrove teamed up with Underwoods Engineered Products to supply, install and commission a suite of LV switchgear and control systems. This included the retrofit of two existing standby generators with an upgrade to allow long term parallel operation with the utility mains supply.

  • Automatic Mains Changeover (AMCO) control panel for primary LV mains.
  • Automatic Power Management & Switching (APMS) control panel for critical switchboards.
  • Engine Generator Control Panels (EGCP) retrofit for two diesel generators.
  • Replacement of alternators and generator re-commissioning works.
  • Switchgear commissioning and sitework services.
  • G59 protection panels and witnessed testing.

Weirgrove has also supplied switchgear control systems and sitewide SCADA systems for Air Traffic Control Centres and Airport Control Towers.
